Do You Love Your Job? Happy employees are up to 20% more productive…find out why

Happy Employees Are Productive Employees

ENSURE YOUR TEAM IS HAPPY, ENGAGED AND STAYS PRODUCTIVE

“Houston… we have a problem”. Well, this time it’s not the astronauts and it’s not in space, it’s right here on terra (not so) firma. As Texas experiences record-breaking weather, we are reminded – especially after experiencing 2020 – that we should certainly count our blessings. Instead of focusing on what you have missed out on, it’s important to focus on what we have, and certainly right now I’m thankful for heat and the ability to work from home!

So how do we count our blessings in the workplace? It starts with appreciating your team and helping make your workplace an environment where employees can be engaged and productive.

In January we offered tips on working with your team to prevent burnout (which could lead to turnover); now, let’s focus on how to improve workplace happiness to keep top employees happy and engaged. After all, “happy employees are up to 20% more productive than unhappy employees.” (Forbes.com)

As mentioned last month, a recent Gallup report on employee burnout states, “it’s not just the number of hours you work; it’s how you’re managed and how you experience work during those hours.” (Gallup.com, 2020)

So, what can you do to ensure your project team is happy, engaged….and stays productive? Here are a few articles offering advice on small adjustments that can be done quickly and inexpensively, even while working remotely:

Key Points:

Culture: Companies that land on “best places to work” lists have the best cultures, helping them win during the talent war.

Vision: Get buy-in from key employees and keep them aligned and committed to the purpose and vision of the project to work towards shared project goals.

Communication: Managers and team leads should ensure their teams have a clear understanding of the scope and deliverables of their projects.

Professional development: Help employees develop a career path within your organization, developing new skills or enhancing existing ones.

Recognition (or verbal praise): Recognizing people for their good work sends an extremely powerful message to the recipient, their work team, and other employees.
